Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) is the largest professional body for environmental practitioners in the United Kingdom and worldwide. The IEMA Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management provides a solid foundation of environment and sustainability knowledge to build on, and covers a wide range of environment and sustainability principles.

The IEMA syllabus covers the global and local environmental issues, as well as the impact of societal activities on the earth’s natural systems. A practical approach is adopted to enable organisations can improve their environmental performance and reduce their impacts, both strategically and operationally.

  • The course is divided into 3 modules and covers:
  • Module 1: Environmental sustainability
  • Module 2: Environmental legislation
  • Module 3: Assessment, interpretation and management

  • What will I gain by achieving the IEMA Associate Certificate in Environmental Management?

Delegates who successfully complete the IEMA Associate Certificate in Environmental Management will be certified and can apply for Associate Membership of the Institute of Environmental Management (IEMA) allowing you to use AIEMA after your name.

  • Assessment

The IEMA Associate Certificate is assessed with a timed 2½ hour written exam that is completed online consisting of short answer questions.

Classroom

This course can be administered via our classroom session (face-to-face training) at our learning centers.

The IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management is made up of three Modules:

Module 1: Fundamentals of sustainability, business and governance

  • Implications of global trends for the environment, society, the economy and for organisations and the role of an environment/sustainability professional in overcoming these challenges
  • Sustainable business/governance models and principles

 

Module 2: Environmental principles, policy and legislation

  • Environmental principles
  • Major policy and legislation

Module 3: Environmental management/assessment tools and skills

  • Major tools, techniques, systems and practices to develop sustainable products and services and improve sustainability performance
  • The role of innovation in developing sustainable products, services and solutions
  • Data collection, critical analysis and information reporting to inform decision making
  • Problem identification and opportunity assessment for delivery of innovative and sustainable products and services
  • Effective communications
  • Stakeholder identification and engagement
  • Tools, techniques, systems and practices to identify opportunities and risks
  • Project and programme delivery to achieve performance improvements

 Assessment

The IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management is assessed by:

  • Assignments for each module – these are set by IEMA but marked by Astutis

An assessment of competence – this is a practical application (this forms Module 4 of the programme) and is submitted to IEMA for marking. It can only be submitted after all the other modules have been successfully completed.
